Killed by math
It’s time for Kyoko and Misako to put on their best ass-kicking sneakers, as WayForward has announced that RPG / Brawler City girls by the river will debut on next-gen platforms later this morning. The cartoonish head-buster launches for PS5 on January 18, and best of all, PS4 gamers will be able to enjoy the upgrade for free.
So what can the mighty PS5 bring to the modest world of River City? Well, it’s true that there aren’t a lot of additional gubbins on offer. City girls by the river is, after all, a game that relishes the aesthetic style of the old school Kunio-kun franchise. The PS5 port will, however, support the activity feature and also integrate DualSense features, so you can at least feel the impact of every Stone Cold Stunner and Dab Strike cleaning the room.
Originally released in the summer of 2019 (yes, it’s been so long already …) City girls by the river is the story of two anarchic and excitable schoolgirls who, after receiving sinister texts, engage in a two-man brawl in the streets, docks, arcades, beaches and hotels in their comic book ‘berg. With gorgeous sprite work, a passionate adherence to the franchise’s lore, bone-breaking fights, and a nasty soundtrack from Megan McDuffee, City girls by the river is a very worthy entry in the long run Kunio-kun franchise and a bar-lever for the brawler kind.
City girls by the river is out now on PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The PS5 edition will launch on January 18. A suite, river town girls 2, will be heading to PC and consoles this summer.
Prepare to rumble! The PS5 digital version of River City Girls is set to arrive in North America and Europe on January 18th! Help Misako and Kyoko save Kunio and Riki, whether solo or in local co-op beat-’em-up action – now with DualSense and Activity functionality! pic.twitter.com/D2acsGkcVd
