Bethesda has re-released Skyrim so many times on so many different platforms that it has achieved parody status, and earlier this year the meme continued with a new anniversary edition. This time around, however, there’s at least a bunch of new content added to the base package, including a brand new fishing mini-game. here is how to start the Skyrim fishing quest, get a rod and find all the fishing slots in Skyrim Anniversary Edition.
How to start the fishing quest
The new fishing content in Skyrim has not been organically integrated into the game by Bethesda. This is actually a mod from the Creation Club program that you will need to install manually before you can start casting.
To do this, simply select Creation Club from the main menu and install the Fishing add-on from there.
Once installed, you must undertake a first fishing quest called Angler Knowledge. This requires you to visit Riften’s Fishery, talk to Viriya, and then complete a Fishing Bounty in a quest titled “In a pinch.” Once done, you need to talk to Swims in Deep Water, an NPC who offers you several fishing quests of all styles to catch.
From that point on, to fish in Skyrim and catch each of the game’s species, all you need to do is head to one of the designated fishing spots scattered around the map, which are outposts called ” peach “. They usually have a rod, a bucket, and a square of fish sitting on a shore.
For a complete overview of the actual location of each fishing supply location in a given area of the map, you will need specific fishing maps. These can be purchased from Belethor’s Shop in Whiterun.
If you’ve just started a new game, look for the one near Riverwood, which is located by the river on the way to Whiterun. It’s just before the stone bridge.
How to get a fishing rod
Of course, before you can start fishing you will need a rod. Fortunately, you’ll find one on the ground next to almost every fishing spot in the game. You can also buy these from most of the merchants scattered around the map. If you prefer to make one, it is also possible: in a forge, use x1 iron ingot and x1 firewood for this.
How to catch fish in Skyrim
Standing near a fishing supply location, equip your rod and use the interact button near a body of water to cast. The mechanics are not particularly complex; fishing is done at a standstill and all you need to do is press the interaction button to cast. Sooner or later you’ll feel a bite on the line, and all you have to do is press Interact again to coil it up. Remember, you want to wait until you feel a tugging before you start winding. The fish usually nibble on your hook a bit before taking the bait, so don’t jump on the gun!
As for what to look for to actually find a fish, you should see ripples in the water that indicate fish are nearby. If you don’t, you’ve caught it dry or there’s no fish right there to start. If this is the former, note that you will have to wait 24 hours of playing time before the fish return to this location.
All fishing locations
There are five areas in Skyrim where you will find fishing supply locations where fish can be caught. We’ll break them down below. You can either use it as a reference or just buy the maps from the various vendors around Skyrim.
