Shin Megami Tensei V: Beginner Tips & Tricks

Shin Megami Tensei V is the fifth and final entry in Atlus’ turn-based JRPG series. While series veterans will likely feel right at home with this one, newcomers may find that there are quite a few systems thrown at you at the very start of the game, and it can be overwhelming. With that in mind, here are some beginner tips to help you get your journey off to a smooth start in Shin Megami Tensei V.

Save often

Honestly, this cannot be overstated. SMT V does not have an autosave function and there are no checkpoints. This means that if you die, you’ll be taken straight back to the main menu and you’ll have to load your latest save file. This can be quite difficult, especially considering that even the slightest mistake could potentially lead to the annihilation of your party in a regular battle.

On top of that, the game ends when the protagonist is knocked out, so you definitely have to be extra careful. Whenever you encounter a leyline source (one of those glowing blue pillars of light), interact with it and choose the Chronicle Deeds option to save your game.
