Make the wrong kind of impact

Studio MiHoYo has announced that the next update to its hugely popular RPG adventure title Genshin Impact was hit with an unforeseen delay and will not launch this month as planned. The studio hasn’t announced a replacement date for version 2.7, which was originally slated to launch on May 11.

MiHoYo made the unfortunate announcement on Twitter last weekend. “Dear travelers, Due to the progress of the project, the update to version 2.7 will be postponed”, reads the succinct tweet. “For detailed information about the new update date, content adjustment plan and compensation, please stay tuned for upcoming announcements.”

While no reason was given for the delay other than the aforementioned “project progress”, it should also be noted that China, (where Genshin Impact is being developed) recently launched emergency lockdown legislation in response to an increase in COVID-19 cases among the population. These sudden measures are expected to disrupt various industries and economies in the country.

Genshin Impact Version 2.7 is expected to bring a slew of delicious new content to the people of Teyvat. The update will see two new characters join the GI including the five-star royal archer Yelan and the mysterious and agile electro-ninja Kuki Shinobu. While these two young women look radical, it seems avid travelers will have to save their hype for now.

Genshin Impact is available now on PlayStation, PC and mobile platforms. A Nintendo Switch edition remains in development, although a release date has yet to be announced.
